Coronavirus: 1 in 3 in Los Angeles are Infected with the Virus

Per the LA Times (Jan 14), 1 in 3 residents in Los Angeles County have been infected with the coronavirus. We have to remember that back in June estimates ranged between 2% to 4%. Talk about a dramatic increase in infections over the course of 8 months or so. This has to be the definition of exponential growth, which really just took off like a rocket starting in December.

At the time of this January 14th article, officially documented cases were just under 1 million. This implies that slightly less than 1 in 3 cases are verified (LA County's population is around 10 million so the estimate is that 3.3 million have already gotten infected.)

What precautions are being recommended to stop the spread of the virus? The article mentions the below:
When leaving home to access essential services, L.A. County Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer said, people should bring sanitizing wipes to disinfect their cellphones, car keys, work stations and door handles — anything they might touch that others also have touched. Health officials also suggested avoiding eating or drinking with anyone not in your household, washing or sanitizing your hands every hour if you’re around others, and taking a break from shopping.

They also issued a new recommendation: People who live with elderly residents or with residents who have an underlying medical condition and must go out of their households should wear a mask at home.

Is it shocking that so many residents of LA County have gotten the virus? Obviously, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's Eve and even the Dodgers/Lakers championship runs all played a role in the spread of the virus, but let's also admit that Los Angeles loves to party.
